Perception of Art

The guide will help you to more easily perceive artwork. It will help you notice elements that you might easily miss.

Artwork:
1. What is the form of the artwork?
2. Come closer/away-what shape does it have? Is it 3D?
3. In what technique was the artwork made?
4. Does the way the artwork is made remind you of any known technique? Do you know the material, the tools, the way the artwork was made? How do you think it is easy to work with these media?

Exhibition:
1. What does the exhibition space look like?
2. Is the environment/arrangement conducive to the presentation or vice versa?
3. Is there a relationship between the other works in the room?
4. Pay attention to the arrangements of the exhibition. What is the relationship between the objects? Do they complement each other or are they opposites?

History:
1. For what reason was the work created?
2. What drives the author to create art? Is there always a reason for it?
3. What does the artwork say?
4. Do you see the message/sense coming from the artwork? What kind of story does it tell?

Author(s):
1. How does the author/artist work?
2. Do you recognize the artist's way of working? Is there a pattern to it?
3. Is the author's image related to the reception of the work?
4. Does the author's manner affect the work you view? Is familiarity with the author(s) important to you?
